Inside The Lalique Gallery.

In a nutshell... We (my late Father & I) have been continually in business from the 1960's dealing at first in fine arms, amour and militaria along with (controversial) Third Reich regalia. Starting business in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey taking a shop in Brady's Arcade (formerly The Collector's shop owned & run by Roy Butler, he of The BBC's Antiques Roadshow, who's been running an auction house for many years in Lewes, Sussex). Traveling every month to purchase stock from his auction house in Lewes, it was sensible to move nearer. So moving to Brighton in the 1970's and renting various shops in the famous 'Lanes' still trading in militaria. Then incorporating old children's pedal cars into the stock from an arcade shopping center in nearby Rottingdean.

Moving back to central Brighton in the 1990's and leasing a premises called 'The Sentry Box' in Market Street, in the Lanes and then trading from various other outlets. Gradually dispensing with the militaria and trading in classic car memorabilia and automobilia incorporating Lalique car mascots into the inventory. In early 2000 buying a freehold house with land with a 'tatty' garage and getting planning permission to knock it down and re-build a purpose built gallery with glass roof to show off the exclusive Lalique mascots in natural light!

Overview CV (courtesy of 'Auctionata' the German online auction house company).

We would like to introduce you to Geoffrey George Weiner, Auctionata expert in Lalique Car Mascots and Automobilia.

Geoffrey George Weiner, I.A.M., O.T.R., C.S.M.A. is an expert in Automobilia specializing in fine Lalique car mascots. He has been in the automotive business for over 30 years and previously dealt in arms and militaria prior to that.

His passion developed early at the tender age of 13 working for Roy Butler of the famed BBC Antiques Roadshow. In the late 1970's, Geoffrey worked at his shop in Kingston-upon-Thames selling all sorts of militaria along with automobilia, mainly motoring badges and mascots.

His interests are diverse and include old toy pedal cars: he had built a collection of more than fifty. One of these was a special order made as a birthday present for HRH Prince William from his mother the (late) Lady Diana, Princess of Wales (all since sold off long ago!). He now runs a collectors' club and Gallery in Brighton devoted to Lalique automotive mascots.
.
Mr. Weiner has advised many auction houses and worked as the automobilia consultant for a well-known UK auction house. He is also a consultant for the Miller's Collector's Cars price guide as well as their art, antiques and collectibles price guides. He has published several books on the subject of collecting, and is currently writing a third follow-up book on the subject of Lalique car mascots.

He has appeared on many television programs and radio shows speaking on his areas of expertise. Recently, Geoffrey appeared on the collectibles show 'Masterpiece' and BBC’s 'Dealers – Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is'.

Mr. Weiner deals at this moment exclusively in the artwork of René Lalique (French, 1860–1945) being the designer of Art Deco glass car mascots, desk ornaments & paperweights... He now feels it's time to 'let go' of the mascots so others can enjoy them, and so semi-retire!

La magicien du verre: René Lalique...

René Lalique (French, 1860–1945) was a master glass artisan working through both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. The designs for these automotive mascots known as Bouchon de Radiateurs, were produced during the short Art Deco period from 1925 until 1931. Production ended with the ocupation of the Wingen-sur-Moder factory by the Germans who took over the Alsace region in 1940. Production began again in 1947 under the control of his son Marc, and then these were marketed as presse-papiers (paperweights or desk ornaments). Recently re-introduced for a short period and promoted as 'Mascottes' from the 1990's through to 2015 and all have now been deleted from the range and their catalogue. Many books have been written on him and his glass etc. but up to now none have the fully detailed information as set-out in these books!

The new Lalique car mascots book is out now... It's now here in stock for a special price for you! The book launch was on Sunday 22nd October last and was a resounding success! (see photo 4).

Lalique (including auction realisation prices with market values guide)” by G. G. Weiner with a Foreword by (the present) Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and a Preface by the BBC Antiques Roadshow expert Eric Knowles.

Vol. 2 covers in depth and far more detail on all aspects of the car mascots including the as yet un-published description and images of the factory colour test pieces and prototypes. Also laid to rest the many rumors that abound concerning 'The King's Greyhound', the one-off special commission for HRH Prince George, later to become King George V1 of GB.

Information on modern made pieces, fakes on the market, where to look for and where to see these mascots, and also information on how to take care of them. See close-up details of the many varied signatures used at different periods of production. Up-to-date values and auction realisation prices, values etc. This has all the vital information that many specialists and auction houses should now have access to, sadly lacking in their descriptions... up till now!

"Unique Lalique Mascots Vol. 2 of the series of books..

A new book on the subject of collecting the René Lalique car mascots (hood ornaments) of the Art Deco period.

Twentieth-century French glass designer René Lalique was known for his Art Deco creations of glass art, perfume bottles, vases, jewellery, chandeliers, clocks, and the unusual subject of this book car radiator cap ornaments.

Stunningly beautiful and now highly collectible, these glass mascots range in design from a peacock’s head to the goddess of speed, from a boar to an owl, from a fox to the King’s greyhound, some in clear, strikingly coloured glass, others frosted, some electrically illuminated and all with their Lalique provenance etched somewhere into the glass.

In this book, Geoffrey George Weiner, a dealer and specialist in the subject, looks at each design in some detail, gives an idea of what it may be worth (depending on its condition and rarity). He also offers advice on buying and looking after these objets d’art that are a joy to own as well as a true blue-chip investment for you and your family to savour and enjoy!"
